A large delegation from Brielle was in Havlíčkův
Brod to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the
Velvet Revolution with the Czechs.
On Thursday, November 14, Theo, Erno, John
and Peter mebers of the Pekel music group
flew to Prague with Irene Kleinjan. Irene is a
twinning musician from the start of the
jumelage.
In Prague we were picked up by Tomás
Hermann and went to the Czech Parliament,
where we got a tour by Jan Tecl,
parliamentarian and mayor of Havlíčkův Brod.
To our great surprise Eva Hora and her
husband participated in the tour!
Our wonderful guide Tomás Hermannen dropped
us at the force of the Honza Swartz in Svatý Kríž,
where we stayed. Petra and Honza allready had
prepared our diner!
Thursday evening November 14 we drove
to Jo Ramaekers - Kees and Mieke Haanstra
had our music stuff in their bus, so we had to
pick it up. We went to the theater, where the
singers Kia Lutnerova and Jana Blazkova
were ready to rehearse for our
performances. We could borrow the car from
HBBC member Pavel Novotny. Awesome!
For Jana and Kia, we had wooden shoes to
increase integration. Two Dutch songs were
translated by my Yoga teacher Viktoria.

On Friday morning, November 15 we
performed these numbers in a one-hour
program for 340 high school students. The
highlight was a clog dance, that a number of
Czech boys performed with Kia and Jana!
In the meantime, mayor Gregor Rensen,
alderman André Schoon, Peter Kroone and a
member from each political party in Brielle, had
arrived in Prague. We met in the theater of HB
where a performance was organized in the
context of the Velvet Revolution.
Saturday morning November 16 was our
second
performance in a retirement home. Tomás
Hermann was the translator and we even got
the audience dancing.
with violinist Pavel Kubat, Irene kleinjan, Jana
Blazkova, Pekel and other musicians present.

Together with Jana and Kia and supported by the
translation by Tomás, we played 3 times here in
a program with a number of music groups from
different parts of the Czech Republic.
The great quality of the products and crafts,
offered on the market, is striking! Forges and
wood turners created a great atmosphere!
We said goodbye to our wonderful Czech
friends in a theater / party farm in Svatý Kríž.
It was a great time in Havlíčkův Brod and I am
really looking forward to deepening the
integration of Czech and Dutch music at the
35th anniversary of the twinning in 2020!
On Saturday evening we met in the Čarodějka
(witches) bar in the center of Havlíčkův Brod. Kia
Lutnerova provided delicious snacks and the mayor
and aldermen of HB, Brielle and
Spišská Nová Vez
(Slovakian sister city of HB) enjoyed a music session

This year too, a large delegation from Havlíčkův Brod was
present during the April 1 festivities.
Jan Tecl, mayor of Brod, was there together with 2 directors.
They were accompanied by Gregor Rensen, mayor of Brielle,
who informed them about the history of the April 1st festivities.
In addition, the Czech music group Worwani was in Brielle.
They played their music at the street group the Rebels. We
were spoiled in the sun with their cheerful sounds.
The musicians stayed with host families, just like Pepe, a
woodworker from our sister city. He showed his works on April
1 at the street group. In the evening, all members of the street
group and all the Czechs ate the “geuzenmaal” in the old
Arsenal, where a buffet was offered to many members of the
April 1 association. Peter Moree and other members of the folk
group Pekel and Worwani provided the music there.

The visit to Havlíčkův Brod in May 2019
by Joop Brune
The annual May 8 commemoration in Havlíčkův
Brod is always visited by a delegation from
Brielle. This year, Brielle was also represented by
members of the Havlíčkův Brod Brielle
Committee.
There was also a request from the shanty choir
"de Spuigasten", if they could join the delegation
again this year. Two years earlier this choir had
already been in Brod and had good memories of
it. Although this choir comes from the marina of
Zuidland, many members live in Brielle.
The company consists of approximately 30
members (m/f) and travels to the Czech Republic
on all kinds of occasions. They provide
accommodation themselves. Some have a
camper, others are staying in a guest house or
can go to friends.
This year all the festivities were on the big square
in the city, because there was a major renovation
in the park. The weather was beautiful and the
choir sang twice on the big stage. The Czech
songs, which were sung enthusiastically by the
audience, were a great success.
Because we were in Brod for a few days, we also
had time to do some other performances. First of
all, we performed at the opening of an exhibition
by wood artist Josef Spicl. The choir got a
beautiful wooden statue, donated by the
artist. It is now in the marina of Zuidland
where it looks at everyone who passes it.
We have a very nice memory of the
performance in a care home because of the
enthusiastic audience.
Of course there was also time for relaxation
and delicious was the pancake we ate
during a walk. The pancake was eaten at a
roadside kiosk. After the order was noted,
a liquid manure wagon emptied the cesspit.
A pancake with a special tast!
The diner at Zdeněk in his cafe was
delicious. It was a nice ending of a few
pleasant days. We sang with everyone
present until late in the evening.
It was a great experience for the choir and
we also hope for the residents of Brod.

Lydia Cornelia Kamerling-Braber
*Dreischor, 13 september 1951 † Brielle, 31 oktober 2019
In memoriam
Lydia Kamerling passed away on October 31, 2019.
Born in the family of doctor Braber in Dreischor, she obtained her HBS diploma in Zierikzee.
She then followed the physical education course at the Hague Academy of Physical Education
In 1973 she was appointed as the first female physical education teacher at the RGO in
Middelharnis.
In 1973, she and Martin met and married in Brouwershaven on 24 August 1979.
They got two sons: Koos and Christiaan and a granddaughter Lotte.
Lydia was sweet, caring, humorous and genuinely interested in others and drew vitality from the
fact that she could mean something to the people around her.
Her direct honesty was striking. Regardless of the position of the other, she remained herself
and did not shy from a critical note in a conversation.
In addition, she was musical, played accordion in care homes, schools or for Czech guests and
was a member of various choirs. Her performance as Doris was famous.
She was involved in the twinning with the Brielle sister cities Queenborough (England)
and Havlíčkův Brod (Czech Republic)
At the end of 2016, a disease manifested that reduced her muscle strength. After a one-year
medical search, it was found that she suffered from a rare muscle disease: PSMA
Without expressing a complaint to others, she carried her destiny with dignity and humor,
that commanded respect.
Lydia passed away, surrounded by love and care, at home in the home circle.
On Tuesday, November 5, Lydia was, burried in Brielle, after a busy farewell service in the
Sint Catherijne Church and sung by her own choir.
